Nestling on the banks of the river Varenne, the small town of Saint Saens combines  charming countryside with the convenience of excellent and intimate shopping in the town centre. 

Saint Saens is a particularly attractive town, reflecting typical Normandy building traditions, half timbered houses, and wattle and daub, fine brick town houses, and uniquely to Saint Saens, the old tanneries with their louvered drying lofts lining the path of the Varenne as it flows slowly and gracefully through the town centre.

A walk in the streets of Saint Saens is a brief voyage through the history of France. The church and its 15th century stained glass windows and the recently restored oratory remind us of the fervour, which is confirmed by the remarkable religious buildings of the neighbouring communes.

Saint Saens boasts a riding centre and livery stables, an 18-hole golf course laid out around a fine 18th C chateau, an attractive tennis club, and good local fishing, all of which complement this small and peaceful ancient market town.

Adding to the charming setting of Saint Saens at the head of the lush Varenne valley, are the 7000 hectares of nearby forest of Eawy offering excellent opportunities for ecological discovery, walks and bicycle rides, on a network of perfectly maintained roads and footpaths.

Beyond Saint Saens, the whole region of Pays de Bray welcomes the visitor. Although little known, this area has a historical, cultural and gastronomic importance, notably for example for its cider and Neufchâtel cheese.  Geologically the Pays de Bray  has a particular mixture of valleys and large plains.
